SG Archives: Toyota Supra MK3 (A70)
Singapore - 18/7/24 - The MK3 generation Toyota Supra was introduced in 1986, the first time the Supra and Celica nameplate was to be separated as different cars. The Celica would use a front-wheel drive platform, while the Supra retained the rear-wheel drive platform that defined the old Celica Supra.
The Supra range of this generation had a host of different engine specifications, ranging from natural aspiration and 2.0L's of grunt, to twin-turbocharging and up to 3.0 litres (The 3.0 had a single turbo).
Customers could option for the common combination of two transmissions for a model, given the option of a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. The Toyota Supra of this generation was sold in multiple countries, including Singapore.
This example here, despite the admittedly convincing photo, I believe did not reach Singapore shores here as a Singapore-market example. I understand that the plate is convincing as is the indented date; SBP is a 1990 plate, its a black plate, the indented date is 2014 so there may be a chance for this to have been a Singapore registration, etc.
However, I do suspect that is this more of a recent import that has a period/generation-correct plate number. In my digging a black MK3 on normal plates did not really exist at all. However, as of 2024, there is evidence that the MK3 Supra was sold in Singapore; there is still a SCP-plate white 1991 Toyota Supra 3.0M Turbo on black plates. Its a rarity for these high displacement motors to survive 20+ years on.

The black example is a Turbo A model, a Group A homologation special of the 3rd generation, limited to 500 units globally. Originally, these came in black with black wheels and door graphics, if not a bespoke front bumper design for additional cooling.
This example is modestly modified, sporting aftermarket wheels, seats, and window banners.
On this parking lot frequently also has a similar MK3 Supra Turbo, a 2023 registration 2.0M Turbo in yellow.
I haven't managed to see the black plate Supra for myself, but should that come to happen, I'll probably drop an update to this piece. I've nothing else for now, see you!
