Hello!

This blog is dedicated to my sharings about general life and others, a bit of a personal memorial of my (now) youth and what I've done, seen, experienced, enjoyed. Life is finite, experiences are finite, but archival can make that experience last, just a little longer.

  • If you're looking for any specific content (i.e specific cars, etc), please use the search function and use your PC's Ctrl + F Search function. Unfortunately due to Blogger's shortcomings, the website's search function is not intuitive, so the Ctrl + F function helps alot. Happy reading!
  • Oh, and please do refer to using the web / PC version, as the mobile implementation isn't well done. Thank you!

SG Archives: Toyota Crown 3.0 (JZS155)

SG Archives: Toyota Crown 3.0 (JZS155)

Singapore - 5/12/23 - One defining feature of old Singapore were its taxis, namely the Toyota Crown Comfort's that once roamed the land. These days, zero of these cars remain, putting the end to an era.

These days, Singapore's taxis comprise of newer Hyundai's, Toyota's and a few other brands, namely Lexus very recently at the time of writing being introduced into the taxi fleets.

The Crown however, is still a sorely missed icon of past motoring, one that is revered by many for its ample space compared to contemporary counterparts. And this would be the last remaining part of that era.

The JZS155 chassis Toyota Crown looks like its taxi counterpart, effectively bearing the same front-end as would the taxis. But engine and luxuries are more different, with the Royal Saloon at least being the bearer of a naturally aspirated 2JZ. No Supra speeds here, but for a luxury saloon, its adequate.

Most of these photos were taken sometime around 2021-2022, and at that time, this was the only example of this generation of Crown left on public roads. Unfortunately, photos from carspotters years before never posted any other units, so I may only be able to assume that this was the only one left around.

But, as of 5/12/23, the plate is no longer valid on LTA's database, meaning that these are now an extinct breed. Unless someday the car does appear again, it is safe to say that Singapore's time with the old Toyota taxis that brought Singaporeans round the country has come and gone.
